This summer at the National Eagle Center, kids fish for free when they fish for eagles! We’ve got the fishing poles, lifejackets, bait and a dock out front. Sign out the equipment and take your kids fishing right here! Kids 15 and under can fish without a license.* Best of all they can donate their catch to feed the bald eagle ambassadors. We’re offering fun for the whole family to experience all summer long, so plan your visit to include an afternoon of Fishing for Eagles!
Winonan Jim Armstrong will be the featured writer for the First Tuesday Laureate’s Writers Series held at the Book Shelf. In October of 2007, he was appointed the first Poet Laureate of the City of Winona.
The program’s organizers hope that readers and writers, young and old, experienced or not, will take advantage of the open microphone session to share samples of their work with a friendly audience. The event is free and open to the public.
Guests will learn how to find, identify, and harvest a variety of wild edible plants, safely and ethically, during an easy walk through the many habitats of the farm. Derek Barkheim of Seekers Wild will be leading walks at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
