Become a KQAL Staff Member

If you’re a Winona State University student and you’ve ever thought about what it might be like to work at a radio station, KQAL is for you.

KQAL is not a student club. It’s managed by the Mass Communication Dept. but is staffed by students (like being in band, on the football team, or in a play). You can expect to be held to high standards. KQAL exists to provide career training for students interested in radio broadcasting as well as to provide the residents of southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin with quality educational and entertainment programming. You don’t need to be a Mass Communication major. Any student at Winona State University with a GPA of at least 2.5 is eligible to work at KQAL.

Many radio stations in the Winona/La Crosse/Rochester area are using KQAL staffers to fill their part-time positions. Working at KQAL is a stepping stone to working in “real” radio.

KQAL is on the air 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That takes a lot of personnel and KQAL is always looking for good help. Positions particularly needed are news and sports reporters, sports play-by-play announcers, and talk show interviewers. Of course we always need on-air DJs.

Most positions are on a volunteer basis. However, department manager positions receive a small stipend depending on availability of funds.
