DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth “Lyz” Jaakola\, an enrolled member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe in Cloquet\, MN\, is a versatile musician\, educator\, and Native Nation Rebuilder. At Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College\, she teaches Music\, American Indian Studies\, and Media Production. As a performer and composer\, Lyz spans diverse genres\, from traditional women’s hand drum circles to blues\, jazz\, and opera. All concerts are free\, open to the public\, and run for approximately 50 minutes\, taking place on Thursdays at 6 pm in the DuFresne PAC Recital Hall.

SUMMARY:2024 WSU International Music Series: Gao Hong & Ignacio Monteverde
DESCRIPTION:Gao Hong has received numerous top awards and honors in China and U.S. In 2019\, she became the only musician in any genre to win five McKnight Artist Fellowships for Performing Musicians. In 2023\, she received two Gold Medals from the Global Music Awards for ‘Best Duo’ and ‘Best Instrumentalist’\, for her highly acclaimed album\, Terri Kunda (House of Friendship)\, which she recorded with Senegalese kora player Kadialy Kouyate. Gao is now a Board member for the American Composers Forum and Minnesota Citizens for the Arts and a Recording Academy Voting Member for the Grammys. \nIgnacio Monteverde is an acclaimed London-based flamenco guitarist\, producer\, and recording engineer. Monteverde has been featured in live appearances at BBC Radio 3\, the London Festival of Baroque Music\, Indian National Theatre\, and the Iraq Babylon Great Theatre\, amongst others. In 2019\, he was awarded the LATIN UK AWARD for Musician of the Year. \n
