The Laureate Reading Series: Michael Wm. Doyle

Doyle grew up in Winona in the 1960s and ’70s, and he got involved in preservation early. While still in high school, he helped save the Winona County Courthouse from demolition. After graduating, he organized the Alma Historical Society and became its first director, leading the successful nomination of 134 local buildings to the National Register of Historic Places. He later served as the founding director of the Buffalo County Historical Society and partnered with the Winona County Historical Society on an NEH-funded project, Working on the River, documenting life along the Upper Mississippi in the 20th century. In 2020, he was appointed to Winona Heritage Preservation.
