James ‘Mudkat’ Grant

James “Mudkat” Grant grew up on rock ’n’ roll, classical, and country, jumping into his first band after catching the Beatles on TV. He played relentlessly through high school and college, sharpening his sound on countless stages.

A pivotal opening slot for the Flying Burrito Brothers in 1970 reshaped his musical path. After a stint in Denver with his band North Country—where they even shared bills with Steve Martin—Grant eventually struck out solo, armed with guitar, harmonica, and a storyteller’s soul.
