Robert Gonzalez, an artist and musician from San Antonio, explores the power of water in pre-Columbian Mexican belief and mythology. Drawing on historical research, Mayan iconography, archaeology, dreams, and the writings of Carl Jung, his work reflects on ancestral memory and cultural continuity.
This two-gallery exhibition presents 18 vibrant large-scale paintings centered on Sacred Waters and Temazcal. The Sacred Waters series portrays ancient Mexican water deities and the vital role water played in sustaining — and threatening — everyday life. The Temazcal works evoke the spiritual and communal healing traditions of sweat lodges, offering a contemplative link between past and present.
