iDMAa Festival and Conference 2025 : “Folk Media”

FM>iDA invites you to explore how traditional folk stories and art forms continue to inspire creators in the digital age. This exhibition reimagines oral tales, handmade images, songs, and rituals through new media—highlighting how timeless human expression adapts, rather than disappears, in a world of code and screens.

Folk media once traveled by footpaths and memory; today it moves through networks and clouds. Its purpose remains the same: to tell stories, share wisdom, celebrate community, and preserve collective memory.

Digital tools now extend those traditions. A grandmother’s story can become a generative prompt, her embroidery a digital pattern, her melody a looping sample. Memory no longer stays local—it circulates, transforms, and connects cultures worldwide.

In this sense, folk media lives on—in political art, disability art, digital storytelling, memes, and more. The tools may change, but the impulse endures: 
to tell, to bind, to remember, and to provoke.
