Laureate Writers’ Series: Allisa Cherry

The Laureate Writers Series presents Alissa Cherry, Tonight at 7 PM at Blue Heron Coffeehouse. The evening includes a reading, book signing, and an Open Mic, welcoming both new and experienced writers. It is free and open to the public.

Cherry, author of An Exodus of Sparks and 2024 Poetry Prize winner from Michigan State University’s Center for Poetry, has been published in TriQuarterly, The Journal, The McNeese Review, and more. A finalist for the Sewanee Review Award for Poetry and Persea Books’ First Book Award, she also serves as an associate poetry editor for West Trade Review.

Raised in a religious community in Arizona’s high desert, Cherry’s poetry explores her complex ties to Mormon history, themes of faith, violence, and Southwest landscapes. Now based in Portland, OR, she teaches workforce development courses for immigrants and refugees.
