Laureate Writers’ Series: Poet Jim Johnson Book Launch

Shipwreckt Books of Winona has released a new collection of selected poems by Jim Johnson, titled A Good Sauna Always Burns Down. Johnson will give a public reading from the book at the Blue Heron Coffeehouse at 7 p.m.

Jim Johnson, a former two-time Duluth Poet Laureate, grew up in northern Minnesota, where he developed a deep appreciation for the natural world, local history, and Finnish-American culture—themes that resonate throughout his work. His poetry has been widely published and anthologized, and A Good Sauna Always Burns Down marks his 13th collection, offering a thoughtful reflection on his heritage.

Johnson currently splits his time between Decorah, Iowa, and the tiny northern town of Isabella, Minnesota—population 40.

The evening will include a Q&A session, book signing, and an Open Mic. The event is free and open to the public.
