Winona Brass Band Spring Concert

April 6, 2025 @ 3:00 PM

The Winona Brass Band Closes Out Their 31st Season with a Captivating Spring Concert

The rich, resonant sounds of the Winona Brass Band will be filling the Winona Middle School Auditorium as the ensemble concludes its 31st season with a spring concert. This marks the band’s second appearance on the Middle School stage this season, and they’re eager to bring their signature energy and artistry to the community.

The program is a journey through time and sound, blending classic brass band repertoire with fresh, dynamic selections. The concert opens with two traditional favorites—James Curnow’s Blenheim Flourishes and Hume’s Exhibition Quick March—before moving into the expansive, multi-movement Cry of the Celts. A highlight of the afternoon is the regional premiere of Norwegian composer Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen’s Vikingkirken, a work that paints a powerful musical portrait of the first church built in Kabelvåg, Norway, over a thousand years ago. Listeners can expect a striking contrast between the piece’s bold, untamed spirit and its moments of hushed reverence. Rounding out the program are selections from film composer John Williams and brass band master William Himes.

As always, the Winona Brass Band’s performances are free and open to the public. Donations are welcomed to support the band’s mission of enriching Winona’s cultural landscape through music.

Join the Winona Brass Band for an afternoon of stirring brass and community spirit—where history, tradition, and artistry meet in sound.
